Our Story

Located at 436 E. Douglas Avenue, stands a duplex that has stood the test of time. Once known as house that sheltered Black motorists who were refused from local hotels, the Urban League headquarters and known as The Phyllis Wheatley Center, the building itself has its own stories to tell.

Inside its walls includes the area’s largest public collection of African art, as well as documents, photos, and artifacts highlighting Allen County’s Black and African American history from 1809 to present day.
